With season winding down, SMI takes lead in standings

With just eight days left of regular season play left, St. Marys Insurance has a two-game lead for the top spot in the standings, but third through ninth all can switch places over the next week and a half.

With wins over N&S Contractors (19-1), Deprators Beverage (23-11) and Allegheny Coatings (11-10) last week, SMI now stands at 18-3, two and a half games ahead of 15-5 Eckert Technical Services, who beat Allegheny Coatings (18-17) and then fell to Tyler Landscape (16-9).

In SMI’s win over N&S, Rudy Gleixner homered twice, Eric Bush and Kurt Eckert once to lead the offense.

For N&S (5-15), Dick Perroz, John Ackley and Rod Anderson all had hits in the losing effort.

Against Deprators, SMI was led by Lucas Wendel and Kurt Eckert smacked a pair of dingers and Jake Cortina added a homerun as the Insurancemen used all 5 they are allowed per game.

Deprators (13-7) got homeruns from Matt Bellina and Ryan Heary and doubles from Alec Wehler, Bryce O’Leary, and Tyler Wehler in defeat.

In their final game of the week, SMI squeaked past Allegheny Coatings thanks to homeruns from Eckert, Kenny Vogt, Jeremy Williams, and Eric Bush.

Allegheny Coatings (13-9) was led by Justin Quiggle’s three run blast. Kevin Hoy and Derek Meyer added doubles.

Eckert’s week started against the Goats when they held off a seventh rally that included what would have been a walkoff grand slam by Justin Quiggle, except Coatings was out of homeruns so it was recorded as an out. The next batter grounded out to end the game and preserve the 18-17 victory.

In that game, ETS was led by Nick Reuscher’s 2 homerun, 5 RBI performance. Nate Schneider and Jared Groll added homeruns, with Groll finishing with 4 RBI’s.

Quiggle did hit 2 homeruns for the Goats before that seventh inning out. Meyer, Hoy, and Dillon Kline all went yard as well to account for Coatings allotment of fence clearing shots.

On Friday, Tyler Landscape (8-14) got two homeruns from Dalton Bauer, one each from Jordan Weinzierl and Craig Kronenwetter to pull of the upset of ETS. Bauer finished with 4 RBI.

ETS was led by Brandon Sicheri’s homerun and triple. Groll doubled and had 2 RBI’s.

Tyler and Allegheny Coatings met up Wednesday night, with the Goats rallying for the walkoff win in extra innings 13-12. Kevin Hoy’s single to center scored Ricky Pearsall in the bottom of the eighth to get the win.

The Goats were led by Justin Quiggle’s 3-run homer, a triple and 3 RBI from Rich Quiggle and doubles by Dillon Kline and Ryan Grimm.

Matt Neubert’s 3 hits and 5 RBI’s led the Landscapers. Dalton Bauer added a dinger and Jordan Weinzierl pitched in with a pair of doubles and a pair of RBI’s.

Tubby’s Tavern (8-12) split their two games last week, losing to Deprators Beverage 16-9 and beating Carlson Technologies 17-16.

Against Deprators, Ken Meyer led the way with a homerun and 2 RBI’s. Bobby Jack and Harry Carr both added doubles.

For Deprators, Alec Wehler, Ryan Fritz and Garrett Bauer all doubled. Wehler and Nate Dezanet both finished the night perfect at the dish, going 4 for 4.

Tubby’s walked off CTI as Matt Kriner’s single scored Bock Lewis and completed a three run seventh inning rally.

Kriner finished the game with a team high 4 RBI. Dave Burgett doubled Jamer Cooney, Dustin Geist and Kriner all had three hits to lead the offensive attack.

Mike Miraglia homered twice, doubled, and went 4 for 4 to lead CTI. Steve Simchick was 4 for 5 with 5 RBI and Justin Saline and Ben Vogt both doubled.

PA Powdered Metals (6-14) played twice, beating Tyler Landscape 12-7 and N&S Contractors 10-8.

Against Tyler, Mitchell Struble homered twice and Cory Huff once to lead PPM. Danny Singer and Leppy Hoffman both added triples for the winners.

Struble again led PPM against N&S, hitting two more dingers, giving him 19 for the year, top in the league by one over Miraglia of CTI. Singer also homered and Ben Reuscher added a double.

N&S was led by Jamie Neubert’s 3 for 3 night. Al Schneider added three hits and the Contractors got two hits each from Rod Anderson and Dickie Perroz.
