A/C Goats back on top of standings in Mens Softball

St. Marys – For the second straight week, the Allegheny Coatings Goats played their two closest rivals in the standings, league leaders Elk County Tool & Die, and third place Metco Industries. For the second straight week, the Goats won both games, and by doing so, they vaulted past Elk County Tool & Die and now sit atop the St. Marys Mens Softball League after conclusion of play last week at the Robin Road Sports Complex.

The Goats beat Metco 11-8 on Tuesday night and the took care of ECTD 17-4 on Thursday night to improve to 16-2 on the year. Elk County Tool & Die stands at 15-2, but Allegheny Coatings now holds the head to head tiebreaker thanks to a 2-1 head to head season advantage.

Kevin Hoy led the Goats on Tuesday night against Metco, smacking two homeruns and knocking in 3 runs. Cole Peterson and Andy Eck both homered and doubled and Luke Zimmerman hit a dinger for the winners.

Leading the way for Metco (13-7) was Dom Allegretto, who went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s. Aiden Zimmerman added an RBI triple and both Eric Herzing and Mike Miraglia finished the night 3 for 4.

Hoy again hit two homeruns and knocked in 4 runs at part of a 4 for 5 performance to help beat ECTD, but it was Peterson, who tripled in each of his first three at bats and finished 4 for 5, who stole the night. Justin Quiggle and Nick Brennen both homered and doubled, while Brett Quiggle hit the teams fifth homerun of the night to help out the cause.

For ECTD, Jared Groll went 2 for 3 with a triple and Eric Wehler hit a solo homerun. The Tool & Diemen could only muster a total of 6 hits.

Monday night saw St. Marys Insurance top Dino’s Place 19-7 and Cavalier Roofing squeak past Dream Catch 12-11.

Kenny Vogt was a perfect 4 for 4 to lead SMI. Jake Cortina knocked in 5 runs,  Josh Zelinski and Kyle Garner both tripled, Kurt Eckert, Jeremy Williams, and TJ Breindel all doubled in the winning effort.

Nick Huff’s walkoff, RBI single scored Cameron Larkin for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for Cavalier. Larkin, Huff and Kyle Schneider all went 3 for 4, with one of Schneider’s hits a homerun.

Tuesday night’s other game had ECTD blowing out Dino’s Place 23-3.

Danny Singer went 3 for 5 with 2 homeruns, a triple and 5 RBI to lead ECTD. Rudy Gleixner added 2 doubles, a triple and an inside the park homerun. Jared Groll, Nate Hall and Ty Donachy also went deep for the winners.

Dino’s was led by Hammer Daniels, Joe Cooney, Tony Lewis, and Carter Julian who all doubled.

In action on Wednesday night, in a pair of tight games, Metco Industries beat Cavalier Roofing 11-9 and SMI turning back Dream Catch 9-6.

Aiden Zimmerman was 3 for 3 with 2 homeruns, a double and 3 RBI’s to lead Metco. Mike Miraglia was 3 for 4 with a homerun and 2 runs knocked in. Dom Allegretto added a pair of two baggers for the winners.

Logan Bauer and Max Cowen both went deep for Cavalier. Cowan also had a double.

Leading SMI was Garrett Hornung’s 3 for 4 night. Ben Cortina tripled, while Kyle Garner and Kyle Williams both doubled for the winners.

Thursday’s second game saw Dino’s Place topple Deprators Beverage 10-9.

Jordan Weinzierl doubled twice to lead Deprators. Eric Gerber, Alec Wehler, Matt Bellina and Garrett Bauer also double, and Zack Zameroski added a 2 run homerun.

SMI beat Metco Industries 13-8 Friday night to tighten up the standing between third and fourth place, with Metco holding the three seed at the moment. In the other game, Deprators Beverage defeated Cavalier Roofing 20-8.

Leading SMI was Ben Cortina, going 3 for 4 with a homerun and 5 RBI’s. Kenny Vogt, Jeremy Williams and Jake Cortina all knocked in 2 runs each.

Eric Herzing led Metco with a 3 for 4, 3 RBI performance that included a double. Aiden Zimmerman and Justin Saline both finished 2 for 3, with Zimmerman collecting 2 RBI’s.

Zack Zameroski had the hot bat for Deprators, going 3 for 3 with a double, triple and a homerun. Alec Wehler added a pair of doubles and a triple as part of a 4 for 4 night at the plate. Dalton Bauer and Dan Stauffer both pitched in with a dinger each.
