With wins to begin the final scheduled week of the regular season, Eckert Technical Services and Deprators Beverage picked up wins to keep them separated by just two games with a pair of games between the two looming over the next seven days to highlight action in St. Marys Mens League Softball played at the Robin Road Sports Complex Monday and Tuesday night.
Deprators (15-7) picked up wins on both Monday and Tuesday, beating PA Powdered Metals 19-3 Monday and Allegheny Coatings in a slugfest on Tuesday, 23-20.
Eckert Technical Services (16-5) had to rally past N&S Contractors 16-11 Tuesday to setup the potential showdown.
Deprators has just two games left, both against ETS. Eckert’s has three games left, two versus Deprators and one against Tubby’s Tavern.
Deprators used the 12-run rule in their win over PPM Monday in just five innings. Brennen Klawuhn was 3 for 3 to lead the Beveragemen. Matt Bellina homered, Austin Green, Nate Dezanet, Gavin Elmquist and Tyler Wehler all tripled and adding doubles were Green, Bellina, and Elmquist.
For PPM (6-15), Cory Huff hit a two-run homer and Mitchell Struble jacked his league leading 20th round-tripper of the season.
Tuesday night, Deprators lead early 5-0, but trailed 13-9 after four innings before rallying for 12 runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 21-13 lead and then hold on for a 23-20 win over Allegheny Coatings.
Tyler Wehler’s grand slam was the big blow in the 12 run fifth to help seal the win for Deprators. Alec Wehler added a homerun, Ryan Fritz, Zack Zameroski and Alec Wehler all pitched in with a double for the winners.
The Goats (13-10) were led by Derek Meyer’s big night. Meyer was 4 for 5 with 2 homeruns and 7 runs batted in. Rich Quiggle went a perfect 4 for 4, scored 4 times and drove in 3 runs. Andy Eck was also 4 for 4 and Ricky Pearsall added 3 hits and 3 RBIs.
Eckert’s fell behind 9-6 after a 9 run third by N&S before scoring 3 in the fourth, 5 in the fifth and 2 in the sixth to pull away and pick up the victory 16-11.
Brandon Sicheri was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, a homerun and 4 RBIs to lead ETS. Tyler Donachy added a dinger, Nate Schneider tripled, and Tyler Zelinski doubled twice for the winners.
N&S (5-16) was led by Brandon Emmert 2 for 4 night that included a homerun and scored 3 times. Frank Lecker added a double and Rick Beimel was a perfect 2 for 2 in the losing effort.
In the other game Monday night, St. Marys Insurance (19-3) wrapped up the regular season title and the number one seed in the playoffs with a 19-5 win over Carlson Technologies.
Leading SMI were Rudy Gleixner and Jeremy Williams, both of whom smacked homers. Kurt Eckert doubled twice, and Williams knocked in 4 runs and Lucas Wendel ended the night with 3 RBIs.
Travis Menteer and Ryan Childs were both 2 for 2 to lead CTI (6-14).
Mike Miraglia hit his 19th homerun of the season, keeping him one behind Struble for the league lead.
