SMI tops ECTD, keeps title hopes alive

St. Marys Insurance kept their slim regular season league championship hopes alive Friday night, beating Elk County Tool & Die for the second time this season, accounting for both of ECTD losses, remaining mathematically alive with just one week left in the regular season of the St. Marys Mens Softball league in action at the Robin Road Sports Complex.

SMI’s 23-22 victory Friday gives them the season series tiebreaker, 2-1, over ECTD. If ECTD loses their remaining three games and SMI wins their final two games, the teams end in a tie and SMI wins the title. ECTD can clinch the title as early as Monday night with a win against Tyler Landscape. Any win by ECTD or loss by SMI and ECTD wins the title and secures the number one seed for the playoffs.

In Friday night’s win, Jake Cortina led SMI (17-5), going 4 for 5 with 2 homeruns, a double and 7 RBI. His brother, Ben, also went 4 for 5 with 2 homeruns, a double, but just 5 RBI. TJ Breindel hit SMI’s fifth homer of the game, doubled, and drove in 4 runs.

For ECTD (19-2), Danny Singer went 4 for 5 with 2 homeruns, a double, and 5 RBI. Brandon Sicheri was also 4 for 5 with a dinger and 4 RBI. Kyler Lenox added a pair of round-trippers and Rudy Gleixner one smash.

In the other game Friday night, Tyler Landscape defeated Dino’s Place 9-5.

Leading TLM (8-13) was Nate Hoffman, who finished 3 for 3 with a homerun, double, and 4 RBI. Dalton Bauer added a homerun, Cody Ritter (twice) and Al Schneider both tripled and Jordan Weinzierl added a double.

For Dino’s (2-20), Cam McMackin and Jacob Kline both went 2 for 3. One of Mack’s hits was a double and both Kline and Reece Novosel both had 2 RBI’s.

Thursday night action saw SMI turn back Deprators Beverage 16-15 and Carlson Technologies beat up on Tubby’s Tavern 16-3.

A 4 for 5, 2 homerun, 6 RBI night by Jeremy Williams led SMI. Jake Cortina added a dinger and 4 RBI. Tony Chiodo was 3 for 4.

For Deprators (13-8), Alec Wehler homered twice, and Austin Green and Ryan Fritz added a dinger each.

Leading CTI (13-8), who secured their first winning season since entering the league, was Travis Menteer, who went 3 for 4 with 2 homeruns, a double and 4 RBI. Mike Miraglia added a 3 for 4, 2 homerun, 7 RBI evening. Steve Simchick added a double for the winners.

Garrett Hornung and Jamer Cooney both went 2 for 3 to lead Tubby’s (10-12)

Allegheny Coatings swept a double header from Wildwoods (1-21), 13-4 and 20-0, Wednesday night. In the first game Wednesday, ECTD defeated Tyler Landscape 20-8.

For the Goats (13-7), Andy Eck and Justin Quiggle went 6 for 7 combined for both games. Dillon Kline and Ricky Pearsall added 6 for 8 nights. Quiggle had 2 homeruns and 8 RBI. Kline added a homerun, a triple, and 6 RBI. Eck homered, double twice and finished with 5 RBI. Cole Peterson added an inside-the-park homerun, Ryan Grimm a triple and Pearsall 2 doubles.

ECTD was led by 3 for 3 nights by both Cory Huff and Rudy Gleixner. Gleixner had 2 homeruns and 6 RBI. Josh Zelinski went 4 for 4 with a pair of triples. Dan Singer homered and added 5 RBI’s, and Tyler Donachy went deep and knocked in 2 runs.

Tyler got a perfect 3 for 3 night from Rick Beimel to lead the Landscapers. Nate Hoffman homered, and Dan Wimer was 2 for 2.

Tuesday night action saw Deprators Beverage knock off Tubby’s Tavern 16-10 and SMI shutout Wildwoods 29-0.

Deprators was led by Alec Wehler and Garrett Bauer, both going 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles. Austin Green added a homerun, and Sam Gregory, Brady Schneider, Matt Bellina, and Gavin Elmquist all hitting a double.

Tubby’s got a pair of homeruns from Garrett Hornung and one from Matt Kriner, who finished 4 for 4. Jamer Cooney and Bobby Jack both added a double.

Leading SMI to the shutout win was Kenny Vogt’s 5 for 5 night that included 2 homeruns and 5 RBI. Lucas Wendel went 4 for 5 with a homerun and 7 RBI’s. Jeremy Williams and Ben Cortina also went deep, while Tony Chiodo and Nathan Liggett both tripled.

To begin the week on Monday, Allegheny Coatings beat Tyler Landscape 13-7 and ECTD roughed up Dino’s Place 33-8.

Dillon Kline went 3 for 4 with 2 homeruns and 3 RBI to lead the Goats. Cole Peterson and Kevin Hoy were also 3 for 4. Andy Eck added a dinger. Peterson doubled twice and Ricky Pearsall, Dalton Kline and Rich Quiggle all added a double.

Tyler Daniels and Nate Hoffman both went 3 for 3, and Tyler Zelinski 3 for 4 to lead the way for Tyler. Jordan Weinzierl hit a 3-run homer and Dalton Bauer added a double.

ECTD was led by Danny Singer 6 for 6 perfection. Singer hit for the cycle and knocked in 5 runs. Tyler Donachy homered twice, Kyler Lenox once and batted in 6 runs. Cory Huff added a 5 for 5 night and 4 RBI.

Matt Dush, Logan Bauer, and Jacob Kline all homered to lead Dino’s.
