With just three days and five makeup games left on the schedule, two playoff spots have been clinched. As for the rest, stay tuned, as action heats up this week in St. Marys Mens Softball action at the Robin Road Sports Complex.
St. Marys Insurance (21-3) has clinched the top seed for the playoffs, while Allegheny Coatings (14-10) has clinched the fourth seed. Ironically, the two teams are the only two who have completed their regular season and will not play a game this week, unless playoff action begins on either Wednesday or Thursday night.
Eckert Technical Services and Deprators Beverage are battling for the second and third seeds. Deprators knocked off ETS 17-16 last Thursday to set up a one game showdown Monday night. Whoever wins that game would end up second, the loser, third.
Tyler Landscape holds the fifth seed at this moment, and a win Monday night against N&S Contractors would give them the spot. Tubby’s Tavern are currently tied with them, but they would need Tyler to lose, and they would need to beat ETS on Tuesday night. If they end up tied, Tyler owns the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Carlson Technologies, PA Powdered Metals and N&S are vying for the seventh through ninth spots. CTI is currently seventh, PPM eighth and N&S ninth. Numerous scenarios exist for possible outcomes, but whoever ends up eighth and ninth will have to play a play-in game to see who would face top seeded SMI.
As for action at the end of last week, on Wednesday night CTI beat PPM 13-8 and SMI knocked off Tubby’s Tavern 17-7. Tubby’s and SMI completed a rain suspended Wednesday as well, with SMI winning 9-6.
Thursday night it was Deprators over ETS 17-16 and Tyler over N&S 14-9.
Finally on Friday night, Allegheny Coatings beat CTI 20-8 and Tubby’s Tavern whooped up on PA Powdered Metals 25-11.
