ECTD and SMI still perfect in Mens Softball

And then there were two.

Elk County Tool & Die and St. Marys Insurance made it through week three unscathed and are tied atop the standings in St. Marys Mens League Softball in action that took place last week at the Robin Road Sports Complex.

ECTD ran their record to 6-0 early in the week when they defeated Wildwoods.

SMI, meanwhile, tied them at 6-0 with their 22-6 win over Carlson Technologies on Thursday night.

Leading SMI was Kurt Eckert, with a 5 for 5 performance that included a homerun and 5 RBI. Jake Cortina went 5 for 6, all singles, and knocked in 4 runs. Kenny Vogt and Kyle Garner added homers for the winners.

For CTI (4-2), Mike Miraglia smacked a 3-run dinger and Brett Herzing went 3 for 4 with a double.

In Thursday night’s other game, Deprators Beverage rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat Allegheny Coatings 14-13 on an RBI by Gavin Elmquist that scored Zack Zameroski with the winning run in a back-and-forth game.

Austin Green, Elmquist, Zameroski, and Brady Schneider all doubled for the Deprators. Tyler Wehler finished 4 for 5 in winning effort.

For the Goats (3-3), Rich Quiggle and Dillon Kline both went 4 for 5, Kevin Hoy doubled three times and drove in 4 runs and Ryan Grimm added a double.

Wednesday night action saw Tyler Landscape pick up their first win of the season, knocking off Dino’s Place 12-7. In the other game Wednesday, Tubby’s Tavern turned back CTI 24-18.

Tyler’s (1-6) was led at the dish by Jordan Weinzierl’s 3 for 4 night that included a homerun and 3 RBI. Nate Hoffman added a double and Tyler Zelinski knocked in a pair of runs.

For Dino’s (0-7), Reece Novosel was 3 for 4 with a double and Alex Gorton was also 3 for 4.

Tubby’s (4-2) got a good night from Joe Cooney, who went 4 for 4 with a double. Dave Burgett was 3 for 3, Garrett Hornung doubled and tripled, and Ken Meyer added another double.

Leading CTI was Mike Miraglia who went 3 for 5 with 2 homeruns and 3 RBI’s. Eric Herzing was 4 for 5, and Brett Herzing and John Ackley both added 3 RBI’s.
