Week 1 in the books for Mens Softball League
St. Marys – The St. Marys Mens League softball season opened its 2021 season last Monday and completed a full week of play at the Robin Road Sports Complex with a pair of familiar faces and a young upstart team atop the league standings.
The Allegheny Coatings Goats completed the week 3-0 to sit a half game ahead of the league’s defending champions, St. Marys Insurance, and Deprators Beverage, who both went 2-0 during week one action.
The three teams took totally different routes to be the only undefeated teams remaining after a week of play. St. Marys Insurance opened the year in the traditional rematch of last year’s finalists, turning back PA Powered Metals 40-39, in a game that saw 19 homeruns hit, and then winning another slugfest Friday night against Eckert Technical Services (2-1), 22-21.
The Goats also played Monday night, beating Tubby’ Tavern (0-2), 13-10. Allegheny Coatings then won a pair of games later in the week with relative ease, 19-5 over N&S Contractors (0-2) and 20-6 against PA Powdered Metals (0-2).
Deprators continued the momentum they had towards the end of the 2020 season with a pair of wins, first over Tyler Landscape (0-2), 17-12, then beating N&S Contractors, 14-5.
ETS did have success the rest of the week, starting out 2-0 before falling to SMI Friday night. They beat Carlson Technologies 11-8 and Tubby’s Tavern 24-13.
Carlson Technologies is the only other team with a win after week one, evening their record at 1-1 with a victory over Tyler Landscape 17-4.
This week’s schedule is as follows: Monday – Tubby’s Tavern vs. Tyler Landscape and Carlson Technologies vs. N&S Contractors; Tuesday – ETS vs. PA Powdered Metals and Tyler Landscape vs. St. Marys Insurance; Wednesday – N&S Contractors vs. Tubby’s Tavern and Deprators Beverage vs. Carlson Technologies; Thursday – Allegheny Coatings vs. ETS and PA Powdered Metals vs. Tyler Landscape; Friday – St. Marys Insurance vs. N&S Contractors and Tubby’s Tavern vs. Deprators Beverage.
