Two remain unbeaten in St. Marys Mens League Softball

St. Marys – Finally, a battle between two of the three undefeated teams happened this week, with Elk County Tool & Die remaining unblemished, along with Allegheny Coatings, who played another tight game during action in the St. Marys Mens Softball League at the Robin Road Sports Complex.

Thursday night, ECTD and Metco Industries, both 7-0, squared off with the winner staying in line with Allegheny Coatings for first place in the league.

ECTD scored two in the first inning, seven in the second and five more in the third to put the game away, building a 14-0 lead after three innings on their way to a 17-3 win over Metco. Metco (7-1) didn’t score until the fifth inning, but it was too little, too late.

Leading the way for ECTD (8-0), was Rudy Gleixner, Jared Groll, Kyler Lenox, Corey McGuire, and Nate Hall, who all hit a homerun. Hall ended up with 4 RBI’s, while Groll and Danny Singer both added a double.

The second half of the week started out Wednesday night with a good old fashioned defensive pitcher’s duel between Rich Quiggle of Allegheny Coatings and Tyler Wehler of Deprators Beverage. Each pitcher only allowed 9 hits, with Allegheny Coatings scoring the game winning run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Andy Eck to score Ricky Pearsall, giving the Goats a 4-3 win. Deprators was able to get a runner in scoring position in the home half of the inning with two outs, but Quiggle forced a foul pop out to end the game.

Pearsall and Derek Meyer led the Goats with 2 hits each, one of Pearsall’s was a double. Eck finished the game with a pair of RBI’s.

Zack Zameroski hit a two run homerun and Dalton Bauer added a solo shot to account for Deprators scoring.

In the early game on Thursday, Dino’s Place picked up their second win of the year, using an 11 run first inning to propel them to a 17-9 win over Cavalier Roofing.

Carter Julian and Jamer Cooney led Dino’s, going a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate. Kyle Pecht and Cam McMackin both added a double.

For Cavalier (0-7), Eric Christoff, Christian Cherry, and Max Cowen all homered. Christoff and Nick Huff also doubled.

Thursday night started off with St. Marys Insurance defeating Dino’s Place (2-7), 15-5.

Leading SMI were Jake Cortina and Jeremy Williams, who both homered. Tony Chiodo tripled twice and added a double. Kiel Nissel and Ben Cortina also doubled, and Nathan Liggett smacked a triple.

Deprators Beverage (3-6) outslugged St. Marys Insurance 26-22 in Friday night’s early game.

Deprators was led by Alec Wehler, who smashed two homeruns and finished 4 for 6. Dalton Bauer also homered twice and doubled three times. Zack Zameroski and Bryce O’Leary also added doubles.

Leading SMI (3-5) was Jake Cortina, who went 3 for 3 with a homerun and 4 RBI’s. Jeremy Williams, Ben Cortina, and Josh Zelinski also homered for the winners. Jeff Crawford added a pair of dingers as well and knocked in 4 runs.

The las game of the week saw the Allegheny Coatings Goats finish off week four of the season undefeated at 10-0, beating Dream Catch 19-4.

Andy Eck was a perfect 4 for 4 with a double to lead the Goats. Justin Quiggle and Dillon Kline both hit roundtrippers. Cole Peterson doubled 3 times Joe Jacob doubled twice, and Vince Jacob added a triple for the winners.

For Dream Catch (0-7), Mason McAllister hit a three run homerun.
