St. Marys Men’s Softball to return to action Tuesday night

The St. Marys Men’s Softball League will resume play Tuesday night at the Robin Road Extension Softball Complex after taking a two-week hiatus.

The league followed CDC and PA health department guidelines and suspended play for two weeks after a player in the league tested positive for the coronavirus, Covid-19, roughly three weeks ago. The player in question did not attend the league tournament but did participate in a league game during the week leading up to the tournament.

According to league officials, of the approximately 110 players in the league, 61 players reported to their teams that they went and got tested the Monday following the tournament, with all tests coming back negative. At least 2 players from each team reported getting tested, with all the teammates of the affected player being tested with the results negative.

Tuesday night’s schedule will start with a battle for second place between PA Powdered Metals (4-1) and the Allegheny Coatings Goats (5-2). The Goats, fresh off the Mid-Summer League Tournament Championship, lost to PPM 6-0 three weeks ago in league play, giving PPM the edge in the standings. The second game of the night will feature N&S Contractors (1-5) against first place and undefeated St. Marys Insurance (4-0).

Wednesday night, Eckert Technical Services (3-3) will play Carlson Technologies (3-3) in the early game followed by Tyler Landscape (3-2) and the Buttonwood/East End Beverage Honkey Spuds (2-4).

The second game on Wednesday is also going to be The River 98.9’s game of the week, hosted by Gary Mitchell.

Thursday night at 5:50 pm, Allegheny Coatings plays N&S Contractors and at 7:00 pm it is Eckert Technical Services against PA Powdered Metals.

Rounding out the week on Friday night, Tyler Landscape and Deprators Beverage (1-7) play first, followed by Carlson Technologies and St. Marys Insurance.
