PA Powdered Metals, Allegheny Coatings have successful week in softball action

PA Powdered Metals continued their impressive week in St. Marys Men’s League Softball action, first knocking off Tyler Landscape on Tuesday night, then dispatching the Buttonwood/East End Beverage Honkey Spuds Wednesday night 21-16 at the Robin Road Extension Softball Complex.

PPM scored fourteen times in the first three innings to take a 14-10 lead, then extended it to 21-10 by scoring five in the top of the seventh. The Honkey Spuds put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh, scoring six runs, but it was not enough as PPM (3-1) held on for the 21-16 victory.

Jack Herzing led PPM, going 4 for 5 with a three-run homerun. Eric Gerber also went 4 for 5, Cory Huff hit a two-run homerun and drove in 3 runs. Danny Singer and Ben Reuscher both doubled for the winners.

For the Buttonwood/East End Beverage (2-2), Zack Austin and Garrett Hornung both doubled. The Spuds were the recipients of 14 walks but did not take advantage and get the timely hits when needed on this night.

In the second game Wednesday night, the Allegheny Coatings Goats recorded the first shutout of the season, blanking Eckert Technical Services 10-0.

Derek Meyer was 3 for 4 with a two-run triple to lead the Goats (3-1). Also collecting three hits each were Justin Quiggle, Dalton Kline, Hank Cappiello and Joe Jacob.

For ETS (1-2), Jared Groll went 2 for 3. ETS only had six total hits on the evening.

Tyler Landscape finally got into the win column Thursday night, beating winless Deprators Beverage 19-6 in five innings.

Dalton Bauer led the offensive charge for the Landscapers (1-2), going 3 for 3 with a triple, a homerun and knocking in 4 RBI’s. Andy Eck and Hammer also homered, Brock Lewis added a triple and Jordan Weinzierl, Eric Bush and Andy Glass all doubled for the winners.

Alec Wehler led Deprators (0-5) at the plate, hitting a homerun and collecting 3 RBI’s as part of his 2 for 3 night at the plate. Ryan Fritz and Dan Wimer also had an RBI each.

Eckert Technical Services evened their record in the nightcap Thursday, defeating N&S Contractors 19-11.

ETS (2-2) got strong offensive performances from Jared Groll (3-5, 2HR, 5RBI), Kyler Lenox (2-5, HR, 3B), Colby Lenox (5-5), Tyler Zelinski (3 hits, 3 RBI) and Nick Reuscher (3-5, 2B, 4RBI).

N&S (1-3) was paced by Frank Lecker’s 4 for 4 night that included a homerun, triple and 3 RBI’s. Rick Beimel was 3 for 4 and Dick Perroz doubled.

Allegheny Coatings finished off their impressive week, going 3-0, scoring 47 runs while allowing just 3 runs, beating upstart Carlson Technologies 21-1 in four innings Friday night. In the first game of the night, Eckert Technical Services made quick work of Deprators Beverage 20-7.

Dalton Kline led the Goats (4-1) at the plate, going 4 for 4 with a homerun, double, 4 RBI and scoring 3 times. Rich Quiggle was also perfect at the dish, going 3 for 3 and collecting a pair of RBIs. Dillon Kline, Justin Quiggle and Derek Meyer (grand slam) all homered. Ryan Grimm added a double and a dinger while going 4 for 4 with 3 RBI’s for the winners.

Eric Herzing’s sacrifice fly accounted for the only run for CTI (2-2). Brett Herzing and Brandon Tyger were both 2 for 2. Mike Miraglia doubled in the losing effort.

Jared Groll (2-3) and Tyler Donachy both homered to power the ETS (3-2) attack. Josh Zelinski, Colby Lenox, Nick Reuscher and Tyler Zelinski all doubled. Kyler Lenox (3-3), Zach Reigel (4-4) and Bryan Hansen (3-3) were all perfect at the plate for the winners.

For Deprators (0-6), Nate Dezanet and Dan Wimer were both 2 for 3. Bryce O’Leary knocked a two-run double and Ryan Newton also doubled in the losing effort.
