Elk County Tool & Die Summer Classic Tourney Champs

Elk County Tool & Die went undefeated over the weekend to capture their first Summer Classic Tournament Championship in action held at the Robin Road Sports Complex in association with the St. Marys Mens League Softball League.

ECTD, who also is undefeated so far on the season in regular league play, went 4-0 to capture the crown and are now 16-0 overall on the year.

ECTD started off winning their first game 21-9 over Allegheny Coatings, who they would face later in the championship. They ended the day on Saturday defeating St. Marys Insurance to make it to the winners bracket final. In the winners bracket final, they beat Deprators Beverage and in the championship game, the toppled Allegheny Coatings again 15-13 for the title.

Deprators Beverage was the other squad to make the winners bracket final, beating Tyler Landscape and Dino’s Place to setup their matchup Sunday morning with ECTD.

Allegheny Coatings started off the weekend Friday night by beating Carlson Technologies 20-8, putting them up against ECTD, losing 21-9. They rebounded Saturday afternoon in the losers bracket, beating Tubby’s Tavern 14-3. From there, they would start off Sunday against Dino’s Place, making quick work of them 24-3, advancing to play SMI, who they would beat 19-9, setting up their rematch with ECTD in the finals. Overall, in the tournament, the Goats went 5-2.

Other records of tournament teams were: Wildwoods 0-2, Tyler Landscape 0-2, Carlson Technologies 2-2, Tubby’s Tavern 0-2, Deprators Beverage 2-2, St. Marys Insurance 2-2, and Dino’s Place 1-2.

Saturday evening, the annual Homerun Derby was held, with proceeds benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of St. Marys. In all, over $200 was raised for the club. Mike Miraglia of CTI won the Derby, finishing with 10 homeruns overall and 4 in the finals. Second place went to Danny Singer of ECTD, who had 8 homeruns and 4 in the finals. Brett Quiggle of the Goats was third with 7 homeruns and 2 in the finals.
