The top two teams in the league made quick work of their opponents Monday night, with St. Marys Insurance drubbing PA Powdered Metals 28-1 and Allegheny Coatings smacking Deprators Beverage 17-5. PA Powdered Metals, by virtue of their win over Carlson Technologies Tuesday night and head-to-head tie breakers, secured the third seed for the playoffs.
SMI (21-1) churned out 36 hits, led by 5 for 5 performances by Rudy Gleixner and Jeremy Williams. Gleixner had a double, a homerun and 8 RBI’s, while Williams had a dinger and 4 RBI’s. Tony Chiodo and Kyle Garner were both 4 for 4, and Kurt Eckert and Nathan Liggett doubled.
PPM (12-9) was led by Noah Werner was 1 for 1 with the games only RBI. Ben Reuscher, Nick Brennen and Luke Hoffman had PPM’s only other hits.
The Goats (18-4) jumped out to a 17-1 lead after three innings and coasted the rest the way in their win. Cole Peterson, Derek Meyer, Justin Quiggle and Dillon Kline were all a perfect 3 for 3 at the dish. Peterson had a triple and 4 RBI’s, Meyer a double, triple and 3 RBI’s, Quiggle a double and Kline a homerun and 4 RBI’s. Ryan Grimm added a double and Ricky Pearsall a triple in the winning effort.
Scott Wehler led the charge for Deprators, smacking a base loaded triple. Ryan Fritz also tripled and Wade Steis was 2 for 2. Tyler Wehler added a double.
Tuesday night, the Buttonwood/East End Beverage Honkey Spuds evened their record at 11-11 and helped open a little bit of a lead for the number seed with a 21-7 win over N&S Contractors.
It was not easy though. Trailing 4-2 heading into the sixth inning, the Spuds erupted for 15 runs to take control of the game and pick up the win.
Garrett Hornung and Matt Kriner led the Spuds, both smashing two homeruns. Hornung finished 3 for 5 with 3 RBI’s and Kriner was also 3 for 5 with 2 RBI’s. Zack Austin and Jamer Cooney were both 4 for 5, with Austin knocking in 3 runs, Cooney 2 runs. Dustin Geist hit a dinger and added 3 RBI’s.
For N&S (2-19), Jarrod Servidea was 4 for 4 and Jason Nelson was 3 for 3.
PPM (13-9) secured their place in the playoffs with an 11-4 over Carlson Technologies.
Cory Huff led PPM, going 2 for 2 with a homerun. Harry Carr tripled, and Luke Hoffman doubled. PPM took advantage of seven walks.
CTI (9-14) was led by 2 for 3 performances by Eric Herzing, Brett Herzing and Mike Miraglia. Brandon Tyger added a double.
