SMI makes statement in Monday night win

St. Mary Insurance started a crucial two week stint for the top teams in the St. Marys Mens Softball on Monday night with a convincing 28-0 win over Deprators Beverage in action at the Robin Road Sports Complex.

With Monday night’s win, SMI (18-2) clinched at least a share of the regular season title. They are four games up over Allegheny Coatings and Elk County Tool Die with four games remaining. SMI does have a tough schedule, playing the Goats twice, the first time Wednesday night, ECTD once and Deprators again.

In Monday’s win, Tony Chiodo had the hot bat, going 5 for 5 with 3 homeruns and 8 RBI’s. Jake Cortina went 3 for 4 with a homerun and 5 RBI’s, while Jeremy Williams also homered, went 3 for 3 and drove in 6 runs.

Deprators (11-9) was led by a pair of singles off the bat of Jordan Weinzierl. In all, the Beveragemen could only muster 5 hits and didn’t get a runner past second base.

In Monday’s other game, the Allegheny Coatings Goats (14-6) spotted Gerg Tool & Die (2-18) an 8-0 lead after two innings of play, before storming back and grabbing the win 17-9.

The Goats got a balanced effort as Andy Eck, Dalton Kline, Ricky Pearsall, and Derek Meyer all hit homeruns. Meyer and Kline both collected 3 RBI’s while five other Goats knocked in 2 runs each.

Dominic Zambanini smashed a solo homerun to lead Gerg.

Tuesday night Keystone Rural Health kept pace in the race for a top four seed in the playoffs by squeaking past Cavalier Roofing 10-8.

KRH (13-7) was led by Joe Jacob, who went 3 for 3 with a double and knocked in 3 runs. Mike Miraglia hit a homerun and had 2 RBI. Justin Saline also finished 3 for 3.

For the Roofers (7-13), Jake Zimmerman and Kyle Schneider both were 2 for 3 with 2 RBI each. Nick Huff added 2 for 4, 2 RBI effort. Christian Cherry also pitched in with a pair of singles.

In the late game Tuesday, Elk County Tool & Die (14-6) also held serve in the standings with a 25-4 win over Dino’s Place.

Garrett Hornung and Danny Singer both went 5 for 5 to lead ECTD. Singer had a homerun and 3 RBI. Rudy Gleixner had a big night, going 3 for 5 with a pair of fence clearers and knocked in 9 runs. Kyler Lenox homered and tripled, and Tyler Donachy added a dinger of his own.

For Dino’s (1-19), Joe Cooney, Ray Kline and Bryce Walker all went 2 for 2. Hammer Daniels and Connor Bullers both doubled in the losing effort.
