St. Marys – The top three seeds all held serve in their playoff series, but fifth seeded Deprators Beverage put in their bid for a series upset, beating fourth seed Keystone Rural Health 14-13 Tuesday night in St. Marys Mens League Softball action held at the Robin Road Sports Complex.
Deprators got a big night from Zack Zameroski, who went 3 for 4 with two homeruns, a double, and knocked in 6 runs. Alec Wehler added a double and a homer, while Dalton Bauer also went deep for Beverage.
Mike Miraglia did his best to get a W for KRH, smacking 3 homeruns and driving in 7 runs as part of a 4 for 4 night. Dom Allegretto and Eric Herzing both collected 4 hits in the losing effort.
To open the first round of the playoffs on Monday night, second seeded Elk County Tool & Die defeated Gerg Tool & Die 23-3 and the third seed, Allegheny Coatings, took care of Cavalier Roofing 11-3, as both teams took a 1-0 lead in their best-of-three series.
ECTD scored 13 runs in the fourth inning, buoyed by 5 homeruns in the inning to reach the twenty run rule in their win.
Rudy Gleixner led ECTD, going 4 for 5 with a pair of homeruns, one an inside the parker, and knocking in 5 runs. Danny Singer added two homers and Nick Reuscher and Ty Donachy also went deep. Kyler Lenox was a perfect 5 for 5 at the dish for the winners.
The Goats got a nice, well balanced effort from their batting order, led by homeruns from Dalton Kline, Nick Brennen, and Andy Eck. Ricky Pearsall tripled and hitting doubles were Justin Quiggle, Rich Quiggle, Ryan Grimm and Derek Meyer, who had a pair of doubles. Pearsall finished 3 for 4 and Meyer 2 for 2.
For Cavalier, the sixth seed, Max Cowan, and Logan Bauer both smacked doubles. Cowan also finished 2 for 3.
Tuesday night’s early game saw top seeded St. Marys Insurance shutout eighth seeded Dino’s Place 15-0. SMI takes a 1-0 series lead.
Jake Cortina led SMI going 3 for 3 with a homerun, double and 4 RBI’s. Kenny Vogt also hit a homerun and drove in 5 runs. Lucas Wendel added a double for the winners.
Josh Robinson, Connor Bullers and Ray Kline all had a pair of hits for Dino’s.
