ECTD, SMI advance to round 2 of softball playoffs

The top two seeds in the St. Marys Mens League Softball playoffs, #1 Elk County Tool & Die and #2 St. Marys Insurance, both advanced to the second round of the playoffs by sweeping their opening round series 2-0, while #3 Allegheny Coatings and #5 Carlson Technologies look to do the same Monday night in their first round series in action at the Robin Road Sports Complex last week.

Elk County Tool & Die advanced by beating Dino’s Place 16-3 and 14-6. Meanwhile, St. Marys Insurance completed their sweep of Tyler Landscape by winning 19-6 and 9-0.

Cory Huff led ECTD (24-2), going 6 for 6 with 4 RBI during the series. Rudy Gleixner finished the week 6 for 8 with 2 doubles, a triple and 6 RBI. Dan Singer added a 6 for 9 performance that included 2 doubles, 2 triples and 4 RBI. Kyler Lenox and Ty Donachy both added a homerun and 2 and 4 RBI, respectively.

For Dino’s, who finishes their first season 2-24, Logan Bauer went 4 for 7 with a homerun and 3 RBI’s. Jacob Kline was also 4 for 7, Cam McMackin was 4 for 5 with a double and Connor Bressler added a double.

SMI (21-5) was led by Jake Cortina, who went 3 for 7 during the series with a homerun and 5 RBI. Nathan Liggett was 3 for 5 with a homerun, double and 2 RBI. Kyle Garner had a homerun and 4 RBI. Jeremy Williams also went deep and collected 2 RBI. Kenny Vogt added 2 doubles and Tony Chiodo and Ben Cortina both pitched in with a double.

Finishing their season at 9-17, Tyler was led by Dalton Bauer who 3 for 3 with a double in game one. Nick Reed had a triple, and Nate Hoffman and Cody Ritter both doubled.

Allegheny Coatings (18-7) won the opening game of their series with Tubby’s Tavern 15-3. Justin Quiggle was 2 for with a homerun, a double, and 5 RBI’s to lead the Goats. Kevin Hoy was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI, Andy Eck doubled twice and knocked in 2 runs, and Nick Brennen went deep and punched in 3 RBI’s.

For Tubby’s (10-15), Matt Kriner went 2 for 2, Dustin Geist was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and Bobby Jack added an RBI.

CTI (14-11) picked up an 11-0 shutout win over Deprators Beverage to take a 1-0 lead in their series. Mike Miraglia was 2 for 3 with a pair of homeruns and 3 RBI to lead CTI. Dick Peroze had an RBI triple and John Ackley a 2-run double. Justin Saline added a 3 for 4, 2 RBI night as well at the dish for the winners.

Deprators (14-11) got a 2 for 2 night from Gavin Elmquist, that included a double. Austin Green also doubled in the losing effort.

Deprators Beverage and Carlson Technologies with play their second of their best of three series Monday night at 5:50, with Allegheny Coatings and Tubby’s Tavern doing the same at 6:50 pm.
