Middle of the pack tightening up in Mens Softball

Spots four through eight in the standings, all playoff positions, are starting to tighten up as the St. Marys Mens League Softball regular season winds down at the Robin Road Extension Softball Complex.

Late last week, losses by Tyler Landscape coupled with wins by Eckert Technical Services, the Buttonwood/East End Beverage, Carlson Technologies and Deprators Beverage have the four teams separated by just three and a half games in the standings with just over two weeks remaining in the regular season.

Wednesday night action saw PA Powdered Metals knock off Tyler Landscape 20-8 and Deprators Beverage defeat N&S Contractors 13-7.

Leading PPM (12-7) was Danny Singer’s 3 for 3 night with a three-run homerun and 5 RBI’s. Cory Huff was also 3 for 3 with a homerun, Jared Braun homered and Eric Gerber and Huff both legged out triples. Nick Werner and Luke Hoffman added doubles for the winners.

For Tyler (9-9), Andy Eck and Eric Bush were both 3 for 3. Jude Salvaggio added a 2 for 3 performance in the losing effort.

Alec Wehler was the big stick for Deprators, going 4 for 4 with a homerun, 2 doubles and a triple. Nate Dezanet was 3 for 4 and Taylor Boland added a double.

Allegheny Coatings got past the Buttonwood/East End Beverage Honkey Spuds 17-5 Thursday night. Checking in on the late game, it was Carlson Technologies 4-3 over Tyler Landscape.

The Goats (15-4) were led by Cole Peterson’s 3 for 4 night that included 2 doubles, a homerun and 6 RBI’s. Justin Quiggle was 3 for 3 with a homerun, Rich Quiggle was 2 for 2 and Derek Meyer was 3 for 4 with a homerun.

For the Honkey Spuds (9-10), Garrett Hornung was 3 for 3, Zach Austin smacked a two-run triple and Matt Kriner was 2 for 3.

Carlson’s narrow win was led by Eric Herzing’s 3 for 4 night. Herzing smacked two doubles, accounting for two of his three hits. Steve Simchick was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s and Mike Miraglia was 2 for 2.

Leading TLM was Dalton Bauer’s 3 for 3 performance that included a double. Andy Eck added a homerun.

In the last games of the week on Friday night, St. Marys Insurance got past Tyler Landscape 23-6 and the Honkey Spuds dispatched of N&S 14-2.

Kenny Vogt’s hot bat propelled SMI to their seventeenth win eighteen games by going 4 for 4 with a pair of homeruns, a double and 7 RBI’s. Ben Cortina was also 4 for 4 (homerun, 5 RBI’s) as was Lucas Wendel. Jake Cortina, Nathan Liggett and Kyle Garner all homered for the winners.

TLM, who played with only nine players, was led by Eck’s 2 for 3, one homerun, 3 RBI performance. Dalton Bauer pitched in with a 2 for 3 effort and 2 RBI’s.

The Buttonwood/East End Beverage got 3 for 4 nights at the dish by Hornung and Kriner. One of Hornung’s hits was a double and Kriner had a triple amongst his three knocks. Jamer Cooney was also 3 for 4 and knocked in 4 runs. Ryan Breslin doubled twice and Zack Austin once for the winners.

For N&S (1-18), Scott Johnson went 2 for 2.
