The Allegheny Coatings Goats picked up a 15-4 win over Tyler Landscape Monday night in the deciding game of their best of three semi-final matchup to advance to the finals of the St. Marys Mens Softball Championships Tuesday night, where they will take on St. Marys Insurance.
The first game of the best of five series between the fifth seeded Goats and sixth seeded SMI will start at 6:30 pm Tuesday night at the Robin Road Extension Softball Complex. Games two and three will be played Wednesday and Thursday nights, also at 6:30 pm. Games four and five, if needed will be announced later in the week.
The Goats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Ricky Pearsall led off the inning with a single and then scored on a two-run jack by Derek Meyer to put A/C up 2-0. A single by Dillion Kline and double by Justin Quiggle had runners at second and third. A sac fly scored Kline an error allowed Quiggle to score to make 4-0.
Tyler scored three of their four runs in the bottom of the first inning to cut the lead to 4-3. Andy Glass led off with a double and scored on Josh Pollino’s single. A homerun by Mike Miraglia made it 4-3, but that was the closest Tyler would get the rest of the game.
A/C scored in every inning except the sixth to coast to the 15-4 win. The big innings for the Goats after the first were the fourth and the fifth, where they scored four and three runs, respectively.
Pearsall led the Goats with a perfect night at the dish, going 5 for 5 with a double. Dillon Kline went 4 for 5 with a homerun, double and 3 RBI’s. Meyer had a great night at the plate, finishing 3 for 4 with two homeruns and 6 runs knocked in. Justin Quiggle added homerun and 2 RBI’s and Dalton Kline jacked the fifth homerun for A/C and knocked in 2 runs.
Leading Tyler, who finished the season with a record of 20-8, was Miraglia with a 2 for 3 night that included the two-run homerun. Glass also went 2 for 3 with a double and Pollino also finished 2 for 3.
The Goats (18-9) and SMI (15-11) met three times during the regular season, with SMI winning the first game 17-2 and the second game 14-7, and A/C taking the final game of the series by a 14-2 score.
