St. Marys Insurance atop standings after week 5 in Mens Softball

After five weeks of play in the 2023 St. Marys Mens Softball League at the Robin Road Sports Complex, St. Marys Insurance finds themselves in first place in the highly contested standings.

Four teams have held the top spot so far this season, SMI, Allegheny Coatings, Deprators Beverage and Keystone Rural Health.

All four of those teams are still in the top five in the standings with the Goats in second, KRH in fourth and Deprators in fifth. Elk County Tool & Die, after an 0-2 start, find themselves in third place.

In action to end week 5, Dino’s Place beat Gerg Tool & Die 17-12 and SMI knocked off Cavalier Roofing 13-3 on Thursday night.

Dino’s (1-10) picked up their first win of the season thanks to big nights at the plate by Reece Novosel (3-4, double, triple), Connor Bressler (3-4, double, triple), Jamer Cooney (3-3, triple). Dino’s also got a homerun from Damon Krise.

SMI (9-2) got a 3 for 4 night from Kurt Eckert that included a homerun and a double. Nathan Ligget and Kiel Nissel both added a dinger each. Tony Chiodo smacked a triple for the winners.

Nick Huff went 2 for 3 with RBI’s to lead Cavalier (5-6). Christian Cherry was also 2 for 3 and knocked in the teams other run.

Friday night saw Keystone Rural Health smack Gerg Tool & Die 33-4 and Cavalier Roofing squeak past Dino’s Place 24-21.

Eric Herzing had a huge night for KRH (8-4), going 4 for 4 with a homerun, double and 5 RBI. Justin Saline also was perfect at the dish, going 4 for 4 with 3 RBI’s. Mike Miraglia added 5 hits and knocked in 4 runs, while Mick Vogt, Bucky Benson, Ben Vogt and Dom Allegretto all picked up 3 RBI’s on the night.

Cavalier was led by Logan Bauer’s 4 for 5 night. Bauer hit for the cycle and had 5 RBI’s. Mike Solorio, Christian Cherry, Max Cowan, and Cody Duchi also went 4 for 5. Ken Meyer added a double and a triple, while Cherry and Jake Zimmerman both went deep for the winners.

Jamer Cooney’s perfect hitting night (5 for 5) led Dino’s. Cooney had a double and added 5 RBI’s to his resume for the evening. Cam McMackin finished the game 4 for 5 with a double and a pair of runs batted in. Reese Novosel tripled and knocked in 4 runs. Conner Bullers added a triple in the losing effort.
