SMI lone unbeaten in Mens Softball

St. Marys – St. Marys Insurance is the lone unbeaten team left standing after two weeks of action in St. Marys Mens League softball played at the Robin Road Sports Complex.

SMI improved to 4-0 with a 16-0 shutout win over N&S Contractors (1-4) Friday night. Allegheny Coatings, the other unbeaten team starting the week, lost their only game of week two, 12-4, to Eckert Technical Services.

Kenny Vogt led SMI Friday, going 4 for 4 with a double and a triple and knocking in two runs. Zac Brody added a homerun, Tony Chiodo doubled and tripled, and Eric Bush pitched in with a double.

ETS, 4-1, got 2-run homeruns from Jared Groll and Tyler Donachy and doubles from Colby Lenox and Austin Goodrow.

The Goats were led at the plate by Andy Eck and Dillon Kline, who both hit dingers.

Also Friday night, Deprators Beverage (3-1) staked their claim to a crowded second place in the standings (Coatings, ETS also with one loss), scoring seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Tubby’s Tavern 14-7.

For Deprators, Gavin Elmquist was 4 for 4 with a homerun and Bryce O’Leary doubled in the deciding sixth, where the Beermen had 8 consecutive hits to seal the win.

Garrett Hornung had the hot stick for Tubby’s (1-4), going a perfect 4 for 4 at the dish. Hornung’s night included a homerun, a triple and 2 RBI’s.

In Thursday night’s nightcap, Tyler Landscape beat PA Powdered Metals 21-14 to improve to 2-3. Jordan Weinzierl led the Landscapers with a 4 for 5 performance offensively that included a pair of doubles.

Also, for Tyler, Matt Neubert tripled, and Jeff Crawford was 4 for 4 with a double and 4 RBI’s.
PPM (0-4) was led by Eric Gerber who finished 4 for 4. Cory Huff and Luke Hoffman added 3 hits each and Andy Geci pitched in with a triple.

In action on Wednesday night Carlson Technologies defeated Deprators Beverage 10-6 and N&S Contractors squeaked past Tubby’s Tavern 9-8.

Mike Miraglia went 3 for 3 to lead CTI (2-2). Steve Simchick added the biggest blow in the game, smashing a grandslam in the third inning and finishing the night with 5 RBI’s. Eric Herzing also added a double.

Dick Perroz’s 3 for 3 night led N&S. Jamie Neubert added a pair of hits as well.

Deprators Beverage also rallied late on Wednesday night to pick up their win over Tubby’s Tavern, scoring twice in the seventh to win 9-8. Alec Wehler’s 3 for 4 night at the plate helped secure the win.

Wehler and Nate Dezanet both doubled for Deprators.

For Tubby’s, Dustin Geist and Brock Lewis were both 4 for 5, Zack Austin homered and doubled. Garrett Hornung added a double.
