SMI picks up pair of wins, Goats rally past CTI

St. Marys Insurance kept on rolling along Monday and Tuesday night, picking up another pair of wins by a combined score of 38-15, while the Allegheny Coatings Goats had to rally, twice, to beat Carlson Technologies in the bottom of the seventh inning 19-18 in St. Marys Mens League Softball action at the Robin Road Extension Softball Complex.

SMI, 16-1, beat N&S Contractors 20-8 on Monday and Deprators Beverage 19-7 Tuesday night to run their winning streak to eight games, longest in the league. The Goats, 14-4, with their win, now hold the second longest win streak in the league, currently at four games.

Kenny Vogt led SMI in their win over N&S, going 4 for 5 with a homerun and 4 RBI’s. Rudy Gleixner was also 4 for 5 with a triple and RBI’s. Jake Cortina added a dinger, Kurt Eckert had a double and 3 RBI’s and Tony Chiodo smacked a double and a triple.

For N&S (1-16), Matt Neubert was 3 for 3 and Frank Lecker stroked a triple.

In SMI’s win over Deprators, Jake Cortina was 4 for 4 with a fence clearing shot and 3 RBI’s. Jake’s brother, Ben, also hit a homer and batted in 2 runs. Kiel Nissel was also 4 for 4 with a homerun and 2 RBI’s. Kyle Garner also homered and Nathan Liggett.

For Deprators (6-14), Matt Bellina was 3 for 3 with a solo homerun. Ryan Fritz and Nate Dezanet were both 2 for 3 in the losing effort.

In Monday’s other game, the Buttonwood/East End Beverage Honkey Spuds got past Eckert Technical 11-9.

Leading the way for the Honkey Spuds (8-9) was Zack Austin’s 3 for 4 night that included two homeruns, a double and 4 RBI’s. Matt Kriner was also 3 for 4 with a double, Jamer Cooney was 3 for 4, as was Zip McKimm. McKimm added 3 RBI’s as well. Ken Meyer and Nate Ball each contributed a double to the offensive effort.

For ETS (7-11), Kyler Lenox was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI’s. Jared Groll, Tyler Zelinski and Justin Eckert all added a double in the losing effort.

The Goats spotted CTI (7-11) an 7-0 lead in the top half of the first inning, with Branden Tyger’s grand slam the big blow.

Coatings chipped away, tying the game 8-8 after two innings after a Justin Quiggle three-run jack to left.

The Goats put 6 runs up in the bottom of the fourth to take a 16-11 lead, but CTI scored four in the fifth and three in the sixth to take an 18-17 lead. Homeruns from Mike Miraglia and Tom Bussard were the big hits for CTI.

Tom Bussard gets congratulations from Nick Dattoli after a homerun Tuesday night. Bussard was 4 for 4 with 3 homeruns and a double, but his team, Carlson Technologies, lost to Allegheny Coatings 19-18.

Allegheny Coatings would rally for the win in the home half of the seventh. Joe Jacob led off the inning by reaching base on an error. With one out, Rich Quiggle hit a bloop single to left, moving Jacobs to second. Jake Geer then ripped a single to left, scoring Jacobs to tie the game at 18-18. Quiggle moved to third on the throw to the plate and Geer followed along into second base. Vince Jacob then hit a deep single to left center to score Quiggle and the Goats escaped with the win.

For the Goats, Cole Peterson led the way going 3 for 4 with 3 triples and 3 RBI’s. Kevin Hoy was 4 for 4 with 2 RBI’s, Justin Quiggle had the 3-run homerun, and Geer was 3 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Vince Jacob also was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI’s and a double.

Cole Peterson makes an off balance throw for an out Tuesday night in St. Marys Mens League Softball action. Peterson was 3 for 4 with 3 triples to help lead his team, Allegheny Coatings to a 19-18 win over Carlson Technologies.

Leading the way for CTI was Bussard with a perfect 4 for 4 performance with 3 homeruns and a double and 4 RBI’s. Miraglia was 2 for 3 with the homerun and 5 RBI’s. Tyger finished with the grand slam and 5 RBI’s total.
