The Allegheny Coatings Goats knocked off previously undefeated St. Marys Insurance 13-10 Friday night to highlight action in the St. Marys Men’s League at the Robin Road Extension Softball Complex.
The Goats improved to 9-2, while SMI dropped to 8-1.
Trailing most of the game, SMI took the lead in the fifth inning, plating 6 runs to take a 10-8 lead. Lucas Wendel led off with a single and scored on a double by Kenny Vogt. Nathan Liggett followed that up with a two-run homerun. RBI singles by Tony Chiodo and Vogt drove in the other two runs in the inning.
Coatings regained the lead for good in the top of the sixth. Back-to-back singled by Jake Geer and Vince Jacob got things rolling. Joe Jacob’s sacrifice fly scored Geer to make it 10-9. Derek Meyer then jacked a two-run shot and Cole Peterson followed that up with a solo shot and the Goats were back on top 12-10.
Allegheny Coatings added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Hank Cappiello’s single scored Justin Quiggle, who led off the inning with a double, to make the final 13-10.
SMI was able to get a couple hits in the home half of the seventh, but was unable to rally, dropping their first game of the regular season.
Quiggle was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate, including 2 doubles and a triple, to lead the Goats. Meyer was 3 for 4 with 2 homeruns and 4 RBI’s. Vince Jacob was also perfect at the dish, going 3 for 3 and Kevin Hoy and Peterson added dingers for Allegheny Coatings.
For SMI, Wendel was 3 for 4 with a double, Liggett and Kurt Eckert both homered and Kyle Garner and Vogt both pitched in with doubles. Liggett finished the night with 3 RBI’s.

Also Friday night, PA Powdered Metals improved to 7-2 with a 17-8 win over N&S Contractors (1-10).
Jared Braun led PPM offensively, going 3 for 5 with 2 homeruns and 3 RBI’s. Danny Singer added a homerun and a double, Cory Huff and Luke Hoffman tripled and Ben Reuscher doubled.
Danny Singer comes across second base and fires to first to complete a double play Friday night against N&S Contractors. Singer’s team, PA Powdered Metals, picked up the win 17-8.
For N&S, Al Schneider was a perfect 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s. Scott Johnson and Hog Hoffman both had 2 hits each in the losing effort.
Thursday night in the River 98.9 Game of the Week, St. Marys Insurance had to go extra inning to get past the Buttonwood/East End Beverage Honkey Spuds 15-10.
Kenny Vogt led SMI, going 3 for 5 and hitting a big three-run homerun in the eighth inning to secure the win. Lucas Wendel added a 4 for 4 performance with 4 RBI’s and Jake Cortina finished with 3 hits.
For the Honkey Spuds (3-6), Zach Austin was 3 for 3 with a homerun and a triple and knocking in 4 runs. Zip McKimm, Dustin Geist and Matt Kriner were all 3 for 4. Dave Burgett added a double.
Tyler Landscape (7-2) got past Carlson Technologies (4-7) by the score of 9-4 in the early game Thursday night.
Eric Bush’s grand slam highlighted the offensive output for Tyler. Dalton Bauer tripled and Jordan Weinzierl doubled for the winners. Craig Kronenwetter and Tyler “Hammer” Daniels were both 2 for 3.
Leading CTI was Steve Simchick’s 2 for 3 effort that included a double and 3 RBI’s. Brett Herzing was 3 for 3 and Mike Miraglia and Travis Menteer were both 2 for 3.
Wednesday night saw Deprators Beverage pick up their second win of the season and move out of the basement in the standings, beating Eckert Technical Services 12-11.
Matt Bellina led Deprators (2-9), going 3 for 3 with a triple, 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s. Nate Dezanet, Bryce O’Leary and Gavin Elmquist all added 2 for 3 performance at the plate. One of Elmquist’s hits was a double.
For ETS (4-6), Colby Lenox doubled and tripled, Jared Groll tripled and Kyler Lenox, Zach Reigel and Justin Eckert all doubled.
In the other game Wednesday night, PA Powdered Metals beat N&S Contractors 9-4.
Andy Geci was 3 for 3 to lead PPM. Jared Braun double and Danny Singer tripled for the winners.
For N&S, Hog Hoffman was 2 for 3, Scott Johnson and Al Schneider were each 2 for 4 and Jeff Crawford had a pair of RBI’s.
This week, Monday night’s game between Carlson Technologies and Deprators Beverage will be The River 98.9 Game of the Week presented by Gary Mitchell.
